Earth Island Institute
Earth Island Institute was founded in 1982 by environmentalist David Brower as an umbrella organization that allows small environmental initiatives to quickly get started. Earth Island Institute provides administration and program management for projects that address pressing environmental and social issues. Since their founding, Earth Island Institute has provided fiscal sponsorship to more than 100 projects around the globe. By sharing resources, Earth Island’s organizations benefit from the synergistic exchange of experience and ideas, making its members more effective together than apart. Some of the current groups within Earth Island Institute include Bay Area Wilderness Training, Ethical Traveler, Project Coyote, International Marine Mammal Project, Plastic Pollution Coalition, Sacred Land Film Project, and Women’s Earth Alliance. Earth Island Institute also publishes the award-winning Earth Island Journal that is known for its investigative reporting and inspiring stories about environmental action. You can read the current issue of Earth Island Journal on their website.
