Burt's Bees - Body Care Products
Burt's Bees has long been a leader in sustainable business. For example, Burt's Bees has a policy of sending zero waste to the landfill. With over 350 employees in three facilities, not a single piece of garbage goes to the dump. Instead, employees volunteer to check over 200 recycling, composting, and waste to energy bins, ensuring everything is sorted properly. Burts Bees has outfitted their facilities with energy-efficient lighting, resource management software, and efficient production equipment to greatly reduce their energy use. They have achieved Carbon Neutral certification from the CarbonNeutral Company and they have purchased Water Restoration Certificates from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, returning millions of gallons of water to watersheds like the Colorado River. Burt's product line is extensive including lip colors, lip balms, body lotions, facial cleansers, moisturizers, sunscreen, shampoo, and conditioner. Everything is available online as well as from leading retail locations.
Before sourcing new ingredients for products, Burt's Bees looks at many factors regarding how the ingredient impacts the world. They evaluate factors like the distance to be shipped, quality of the product, environmental impacts (including honeybee health, and social impacts of the sourcing company. Recently Burt's Bees started the Natural Launchpad -- an annual grant program for the up-and-coming thinkers with ideas on how to improve the health and well-being of our planet.
